About Loren Crawford

Loren Crawford is a student of Journalism and freelance photographer from Melbourne, Australia.   Loren is currently attending Monash University in Caulfield, Victoria and is studying for a Bachelor of Arts (Journalism), double majoring in Journalism and Criminology and minoring in Film and Television Studies.  Loren is also taking Communications and Photomedia units.  

Writing and Journalism
Loren has always been interested in the arts, writing short stories from an early age and later developing this passion into her career path in Journalism. At this point, Loren is particularly interested in criminal journalism and hopes to commence her journalism career within the criminal field.  Loren is also interested in film journalism and would love to combine her interests in film and writing by working within the field. Aside from her Journalism studies at university, Loren is currently in the process of writing a fictional novel along with a body of short stories.

Photography
First engaging in photography through media classes during her schooling, Loren developed a passion for digital photography and digital darkroom editing and began to undertake small personal projects outside of class times. Finishing her final year of media with a perfect study score, Loren began to seek out opportunities to work with local musicians and acqaintances. Loren has since produced album art for Melbourne folk band Caleb Garfinkel and the Dreaded Nomads along with soon to be released promotional and album art for instrumental guitarist, Steven Cannatelli among an array of personal projects.  Loren uses a Fujifilm S5700 along with Adobe Photoshop CS3 to produce all of her works and is committed to developing innovative and interesting approaches to her photographic work. 

Loren is especially interested in portraiture and hopes to expand her portfolio in that area.  Loren also acknowledges the significance of Photography within the print media industry and hopes to work professionally in that field sometime in the future.  On top of these interests, Loren is intrigued by some of the less conventional photography formats such as forensic (crime scene), bokeh (shallow depth of focus) and Infrared (full spectrum) photography and is interested in experimenting in these fields during her photographic career.

Stimuli
Loren began to play the guitar some six years ago and finds that much of her inspiration comes from music.  Loren has always loved films and uses many elements of film as inspiration for her work in all fields.   Graphic design also provides a stimulus for Loren's work along with many elements of nature.

Loren particularly loves the work of writer's such as F. Scott Fitzgerald and Lewis Caroll along with photographer's such as Jean Baptiste Mondino, Guy Bourdin and Eugenio Recuenco. Loren also loves the work of journalists such as Mark Binelli and finds artists such as Andy Warhol deeply inspiring.

Loren's favourite film directors include Tim Burton, Quentin Tarantino and Sofia Coppola and her favourite films include Pulp Fiction, American Beauty, Across the Universe, Reservoir Dogs, 24 Hour Party People, Lost in Translation, Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Frost/Nixon, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Thinking musically, The Arctic Monkeys, Jeff Buckley, The White Stripes, A Perfect Circle and Nirvana are among her favourite artists.
